What is Freemasonry?
Freemasonry is one of the world’s oldest fraternal organizations — a society of men bound by shared moral and metaphysical ideals, teaching self-improvement through symbolism, brotherly love, relief, and truth. It uses the tools of the ancient stonemasons as allegories for building good character.
Does the lodge recruit members?
No. Freemasonry does not recruit. A man must seek membership of his own free will and accord — “To be one, ask one.” Interested men of good character may approach a member or the Lodge to inquire about petitioning.
Who may petition for membership?
Any man of legal age who believes in a Supreme Being, is of good moral character and sound reputation, and comes of his own free will. He should be motivated by a sincere desire for self-improvement and service to others.
Is Freemasonry a religion?
No. Freemasonry is not a religion, nor a substitute for one. It requires a belief in a Supreme Being but is not concerned with theology or salvation. Men of many faiths meet in harmony as brothers.
Why are some traditions private?
Freemasonry is not a secret society, but a society with a few private traditions — chiefly its modes of recognition and the dramatic ceremonies by which its lessons are taught. This privacy preserves the personal impact of those lessons; the values themselves are openly published.
What community work does the lodge do?
Misamis Oriental Masonic Lodge No. 335 engages in charitable and civic work — relief for the distressed, educational assistance, blood drives, community outreach, and support for worthy causes in the district, guided by the Masonic tenet of Relief.
